     Hi! My name is Desi, I live in Chicago with my husband, our 2 kids, our Great Dane Nova and our Bengal cat Apollo. I currently work at a library in the youth services department. I'm an adventurous person and love to go out and explore and try new things. My favorite place is wherever the mountains are.

     I found that my passion for writing started in the fourth grade, when our teacher introduced us to poetry. One of the first poems I wrote was a Calligram poem, a shape poem, where you shape your words into the object you are describing. My poem was about pizza and I shaped my words into a slice of pizza. I've loved writing ever since. I wrote a lot in high school and still have all my notebooks to this day. I knew I wanted to be a writer but always felt as though my writing wasn't good enough. I didn't go straight to college but when my father died, I made a promise to him before we buried him that I would go back to school and I did. I attended Richard J Daley Community College, got my associates and then went on to pursue writing at Columbia College in Chicago getting my Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Fiction Writing, while pregnant with my babies. I waddled across the stage, baby girl in my belly, while my son cheered me on in the audience. I don't think I have ever felt so fulfilled.

 

     So, what things should you expect to read here? Well, here’s what I want to do with this blog…  (Aside from showing people what you could do with an arts degree. Haha!) I've split my posts into categories so that whatever you feel like reading that day you can peruse through topics at ease. I want to connect with people of all backgrounds. I’m a mother, wife, pet owner, writer, a reader, a spiritual person the list goes on, I just want to be as open as I can be. Every raw emotion, every ounce of happiness, every cloud of sadness, I want to own it and share it with you as well as showcase all that my writing has to offer. I have always been hesitant to share my work with people and get my writing out there. So what better way to do that than under my own terms right?!
