A little background on this story, I wrote this it for a 250-Word Micro Fiction Writing Challenge by NYC Midnight I competed in back in 2020. This organization is well known for their worldwide writing competitions. I decided to test my writing skills out and registered for the 250-Word Micro Fiction Challenge. In this challenge, the day before submissions they assigned us a genre, an action and a word to use in our story. We then had 24 hours to create an original story in 250 words. My genre was Romance, my assigned action was parking a car, and my word was... honestly I forgot. I want to say it was "Confidence" but I'm really not that sure. The competition started In November and it wasn't until late December when we got our results back. The judges had some great feedback for me but I unfortunately didn't make it to the second round. It was fun to do nonetheless.
So here is my submission piece called, "The First Impression". Enjoy!
“Oh shit! Sasha, that’s him!!”
“What? Who?” Sasha pressed on her brakes. “That’s the guy you threw up on last night? He’s handsome!”
“I knoooow.” She sunk into her seat. “My confidence is shot. It wasn’t my proudest moment.”
“Girl, he’s picking up his dogs shit. Throw up is nothing to him.”
Sasha pulled into the last parking spot on the street. Bianca still sunk in her seat. “C’mon Bianca.”
“He’s coming this way!” she ducked her head. Sasha stared unamused at her reaction.
“This is crazy.” She rolled her window down and waved, “Hi… Sorry”
He began to walk quicker towards the car.
“Sorry but my friend here wanted to apologize.” She said looking at Bianca.
His eyebrows furrowed as he switched the dog leash to his opposite hand.
“Apologize?” he asked half smiling.
Bianca began to blush. “Hi,” she waved forcing a smile. He stood in silent confusion.
“Hi, we uh… we met last night outside of that restaurant.” She nervously played with her earring, “I uh...”
“Oh! You’re the girl!!” he smiled, “I didn’t recognize you without your mask. Hey.”
Sasha paused giving Bianca a look, “You threw up with your mask on?!”
He chuckled holding his hand to his mouth. “Yea… she did actually.”
“I’m so sorry.” Bianca mouthed sympathetically.
He smiled shaking his head, “It’s not a big deal. It was kinda cute.”
Sasha made a face of disgust.
Bianca smiled moving Sasha aside, “Want to grab a bite to eat? No vomit this time.”
And there you have it, a 250 word micro fiction story with a genre, an action and a word chosen for me to use. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
What do you guys think? Should I create a whole short story from this or is it complete as is?
This is an original piece of fiction written by Desiree Gaitan. The stories belong to her. Names, characters, business, events and incidents are the products of the author’s imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental.
